Low-Tox Living
ANEW's Highest-Priority Swaps
If I were turning this into your patient handout, I would visually highlight these 10 categories above all others:
-
⭐ Air and mold: moisture control, HEPA filtration and HEPA vacuuming
-
⭐ Drinking water: filtration matched to the patient's water contaminants
-
⭐ Fragrance: remove plug-ins, sprays, heavily fragranced laundry products and scent boosters
-
⭐ Laundry: fragrance-free detergent + no dryer sheets
-
⭐ Cleaning: simplify to a few fragrance-free products
-
⭐ Cookware: stainless steel, cast iron, glass and durable surfaces
-
⭐ Food storage: reduce heating food in plastic
-
⭐ Personal care: prioritize products used on the body every day
-
⭐ Bedroom: address mattress, pillows, bedding, air quality and moisture
-
⭐ Food/beverages: quality sourcing, cleaner coffee/tea and minimally processed foods
A Few ANEW Principles That Matter More Than Any Brand
Fragrance-free generally takes priority over “natural fragrance.” Patients with chemical sensitivity, migraine, asthma or environmental illness may be particularly sensitive to fragranced products.
Organic does not automatically mean toxin-free. Likewise, “natural,” “green,” “clean,” “eco-friendly” and “chemical-free” are not reliable measures of product safety by themselves.
Certification applies to the product or claim being certified. It should not automatically be extrapolated to every product manufactured by the company.
Water-filter claims should be contaminant-specific. Look for actual testing/certification for what you are trying to remove—not simply “7-stage,” “pure,” “alkaline,” or “premium filtration.”
Mold requires source control. Mold sprays, air purifiers and supplements cannot compensate for an unresolved moisture problem or contaminated building materials.
Lower exposure, not perfection, is the goal. The purpose of this guide is to make meaningful, sustainable changes—not to create fear around normal daily life.

Patient disclaimer
Product formulas, certifications, sourcing and manufacturing practices can change. This guide is for education and does not guarantee that a product is suitable for every individual. People with allergies, asthma, fragrance sensitivity, chemical sensitivity or other conditions should evaluate specific ingredients and exposures individually.
